Prepare a thick paste by mixing oatmeal and hot water in sufficient quantities. Apply on the hives for a quick cure. The paste gets hard after cooling so wash it off with plain water. It is also one of the effective home remedies for hives.

Application of milk of magnesia is also very useful and one of the effective home remedies for hives. Milk of magnesia is alkaline in nature and relieves itching and burning sensation. This is effective in treating all types of hives either caused by allergy or disorders.

Avoiding foods those are well known for causing allergies is very useful practice to avoid hives, one should also be careful to find out if he or she is allergic to certain other food items too. Strawberries, berries, peanuts, nuts, cherries, shellfish, soy products, eggs, chocolates, cheese and tomatoes are well known food items which can cause allergy and cause hives. Also avoid tea, coffee, alcohol, refined foods and poultry products. Eat well balanced and fruit diet during outbreak and eat more citrus fruits. Drink lots of water as it helps in flushing the allergen out of the body, do not scratch or wear tight fitting clothes as it can irritate the patches. Mix a teaspoon of turmeric powder in a cup of hot water and consume before bedtime for keeping the system clean and to prevent allergic reactions.
