Heartburn causes lot of discomfort and shall not be left untreated, home remedies for heartburn are very useful in treating this problem as these are easy to use, effective and safe. Heartburn can be a symptom of underlying medical condition it is certainly a harmful condition for delicate internal organs if allowed to stay for longer period or left untreated. Maintaining a food diary to find out if one is not allergic to certain types of foods, if under medication consult doctor for side effects of medicines and check physical activity during the day particularly after meals, these are few necessary steps to be taken before treating heartburn.

Baking soda, lemon juice and water provide one of the most effective home remedies for heartburn. Take two teaspoons of baking soda in a glass and fill the glass with water, add fresh juice of lemon and stir, drink it as quickly as possible. This remedy can relieve heartburn in a short time. Lemon juice has excellent acid digesting properties hence drinking juice of one lemon mixed with a glass of plain water after meals is also one of the easiest home remedies for heartburn.

Honey provides couple of effective home remedies for heartburn. Consuming two teaspoons of honey after meals helps in digesting the food effectively and prevents excessive acid secretion during digestion. This property of honey is very useful in preventing heartburn. Drinking two teaspoons of honey mixed in cold milk is one of the most commonly practiced home remedies for heartburn, it provides immediate relief and metabolizes excessive acid in the stomach.

Though it may sound inappropriate but apple cider vinegar also provides effective home remedies for heart burn. Consuming one teaspoon of apple cider vinegar mixed in a glass of water after meals is very good for treating the problem. One can prepare mixture of one teaspoon of apple cider vinegar with a glass of water to sip it in small quantities during the day to keep acid secretion in the stomach under control and prevent heartburn, this remedy is very good for improving digestion too.

Almond provides few effective home remedies for heartburn. Chewing 8-10 almonds everyday is also very useful for curing this problem. Almonds can provide immediate relief and can be consumed after every meal to prevent acid reflux or heartburn. Chewing almonds soaked in water overnight after peeling them off as first thing in the morning is also very useful remedy for curing heartburn.

Sucking a piece of ginger after meals or using ginger in cooking or in salad is not only very useful for heartburn and acid reflux but also for preventing excessive gas formation, improving digestive system and regulating digestive enzyme secretion. Tea made by boiling pieces of ginger with water or just using crushed ginger with regular tea is also very beneficial for curing heartburn. However, regular tea intake shall be kept under control to avoid heartburn. Ginger is an effective digestive aid and provides very effective home remedies for heartburn.

Take one potato and peel it off, blend it in the blender to form a fine paste, mix it with water or any fresh fruit juice, consume this mixture twice in a day to relieve heartburn very quickly. Chewing fennel seeds after the meals is also helps in digesting the food and prevents excessive gas formation to work as effective aid for preventing heartburn. Chamomile tea has excellent relaxing properties, in most of the cases people suffer with heartburn due to excessive stress. Drinking chamomile tea twice in a day can relax mind and body and can prevent instances of acid reflux or heartburn. Take 1 or 2 teaspoons of chamomile and boil it in a cup of water for 15-20 minutes, consume this concoction twice in a day for effectively treating acid reflux due to stress.

People suffering with heartburn shall ensure water intake in sufficient quantity, medically an adult shall consume 8-10 glasses of water during the day. Limit or completely avoid tea, coffee, alcohol and tobacco. Strictly avoid spicy food, greasy food and refined or processed food. Do not lie down or go to sleep immediately after meals, take a mild walk after meals, exercise regularly and stay active during the day. Consume small meals 3-4 times in a day rather than consuming two large meals in a day. Raise the level of bed on the head side to prevent flow of stomach acid and juices towards diaphragm.
